Cussler novel finds its way on Saddam Hussein's Throne

July 22, 2005
Dave,

Finally back in the United States...another trip to the Middle East in the books.

On this last rotation I was working directly for a general officer and had to travel a lot with him. One of the trips was to Baghdad and was actually in one of Saddam's palaces.... in this case, it was one of the major palaces that actually had Saddam's throne.

Well, I couldn't resist, after Desert Shield and Desert Storm and a whole host of other missions in the Middle East, and then 18 months in the Middle East for the current war, to have my pic snapped on his throne. I always travel with one of Mr. Cussler's books, so I thought, "why not" and so here's a pic to show that even in the midst of a combat zone, his books are always around!

Hopefully the convention (article below) is filling up nicely; I have to see if Uncle Sam will let me get to Denver at that time....I'm sure hoping too and would hate to miss it!!!

Enjoy,

June 4 2005, Arvada CO.
While attending a special event to mark the planned Grand Opening of the new Cussler Museum attended by Clive Cussler, his family and friends, I had a chance to visit with the owner of these fine, magnificent examples of automotive history. Clive said he remembered the first time he ever saw such a classic car. He said he was six years old and saw a chauffer driven car, such as the one shown above, drive past his home. He ran inside to tell his mom, and by the time she got outside it was gone... but not forgotten. The seed of love for such a classic car was planted.

Sahara Author Clive Cussler Recovering After Surgery:

Aprill 8, 2005 Clive Cussler was hospitalized for 8 days after undergoing a quintuple bypass surgery for his heart. He is home recouperating, and beginning to feel stronger each day. From his daughter, "Dirk, Dayna and I have been taking very good care of him, although he is eager to return to working on his next novel....a western story." Cussler's actress daughter Dayna says, "He's doing good, he just got home from the hospital, but he's a fighter and all the family is very pleased."

Novelist Clive Cussler's campaign against Sahara, the movie based on his best-selling book, has been put on hold while recouperates. Cussler, has been waging a public war against Sahara film-makers for over a year, accusing them of not giving him approval of the script as they'd promised, is currently at home following the operation in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Sahara stars Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz.
