- Denver Booksigning Event-
for the release of Trojan Odyssey

Tattered Cover Bookstore, Cherry Creek Colorado

We had a great time when Clive came to Denver. There were more than 300 fans there for the signing.

Fans waiting for Clive Cussler to arrive

The employee from Tattered Cover explains to the waiting crowd (hours before Clive is due to arrive) that when Clive arrives that he will not be speaking to the group... he will just immediately begin signing books.

Clive Cussler speaks to fans at Denver Book Signing

Clive arrives 1/2 hour earlier than he was scheduled to arrive, and immediately goes to the podium and wants to speak to the crowd. He is heartily greeted by all!

Clive Cussler tells about his experiences

After the embarrassed employees quickly set up a microphone for Clive, he pleases the crowd by speaking about his experiences as an author.

Clive Cussler Special Guest Speaker

You could have heard a pin drop, as all in the crowd listened to every word.

Clive told us the story about his early experiences as a writer.

He said that his big desire was to someday be in public and see someone reading one of his books. Well, one day, while attending a meeting in an office building, he noticed a lady in an office reading one of his books... shocked, he entered the room and asked the lady if she'd like him to autograph it for her... She stared at him, and made a derogatory comment about what kind of asshole was he, and escaped the room...

Years later, he was on an airplane and saw a passenger reading one of his books, and again, happy to see someone reading one of his books, he again approached the individual, and asked if they would like him to autograph it for them... similar reaction to the first time...cussing and who the ---- do you think you are... show me your id, etc... for a second time this didn't go as he thought it would...

Years go by, and he's with his publicist, and the publicist sees someone reading one of Clive's books... say's to Clive, hey look someone reading one of your books, why don't you go over there and ask them if they'd like it autographed... Clive says, "No, you don't understand how this works!"...

(I'm not great at repeating a story, and may not have put all the words in just as Clive did (hey, he's the master story teller, not me), but you get the idea... what a great guy!)

Dave Hyatt and Clive Cussler

Cusslemen founder, Dave Hyatt purchases a stack of Trojan Odyssey's for gifts, and Clive also signs two UK hardback editions of Iceberg for Dave, along with a couple of ARC's of Trojan Odyssey.

Dave prepares to surprise Clive with a picture of the Hunley being raised, which Clive also signed for Dave after some discussion of where Clive's boat was placed at the time the photo was taken. (A new treasure to be framed on Dave's office wall!)

Dave smiles for the camera as Clive completes signing his books.

The older couple that was in front of me in line, had Clive sign two x-library paperback books that they had purchased for 10 cents each that had library stamping on the outside edges of the pages... and one of the collector's behind me in line had Clive sign a rare edition that he had purchased for $2000, and the great thing about Clive is that he gave each of them the same warm and kind greeting and attention! This is why we are his fans!
